A Clovis Fire vehicle responding to an emergency call on Fourth of July struck and killed a pedestrian in the roadway Tuesday night, officials reported. The incident took place about 9 p.m. on southbound Clovis Avenue near Barstow Avenue, said Clovis police spokesman Ty Wood. The fire department vehicle was not a fire truck, but either a pickup or an SUV, Wood added. Such vehicles are usually driven by a supervisor, but it was not immediately known who was at the wheel. Emergency lights and siren were activated on the vehicle at the time, according to Clovis Police.
